Now, forget what we just said and consider the ideas of Boston University economist, Zvi Bodie. He advocates a more cautious approach, less dependent on the years you’ll be in the market. He suggests that the risk of stock investment is only worth it during the years that you have enough income and safe assets to survive market fluctuations. Bodie recommends safer investments, like bonds, whenever investors are not financially equipped to deal with a worst-case market scenario. The pro: safety. The con: low returns over the course of your professional career may not buy you the retirement you’d like.
