The World’s First Customisable Mascots
We all know that the 2012 summer Olympics is being held in London and that some wacky designs for the mascots were released. The mascots (Wenlock and Mandeville) were created and designed by Iris, a London-based agency. Both of these personalities connote different ideas about the Olympics and Paralympics. Wenlock, has been very much inspired by Shropshire, England, where in 1850, the Wenlock Olympian Society held its very first Olympian games. Wenlock has five bracelets on his wrists, each taking a colour from the Olympic Ring. With three points on his head, representing the podium, his body is designed to have the logo of the games, representing the whole world coming together in London. As for Mandeville, his name comes from the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire, which held The Stoke Mandeville games. He has a pink stopwatch on his wrist that reads “0:20:12” and his head has been designed to portray the Paralympics Symbol. Both, are made from Bolton steel that mirrors the personalities that they meet.
