Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the commander of Dubai Police, is currently receiving praise from across the world for his role in identifying the suspects in the murder of Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh. Tamim has said that he is “99 percent, if not 100 percent” certain that Israeli agency Mossad is behind the assassination, and has released video footage of the suspects in Dubai.
The 58-year-old joined the Dubai Police in 1970, after graduating from the Police Academy in Amman. He was appointed as the chief of police in 1980, and was made Lieutenant General in 2004.
A member of the Dubai Executive Council, Tamim also serves as the president of e-TQM College, a quality management institution. He also spearheads numerous campaigns to help preserve Emirati values and identity.
In January this year, he was also appointed as the head of Dubai’s newly formed security and justice committee.
In February this year, Tamim was awarded two medals—the Service Order of First Class and Appreciation Medal of First Class, for his role in solving two high-profile crimes: the murder of ormer Chechen rebel boss Sulim Yamadayev last year, and the AED14 million Wafi City robbery in April 2008.
An outspoken and popular man in Dubai, Tamim even has a Facebook group formed by his fans, called “Dubai’s one of a kind Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim!” which currently boasts 160 members.
