As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, the approaching festival of Eid is expected to trigger a lot of feasting, spending, travelling and charity.

As Eid draws closer, people have started stocking up on essentials for the approaching feast. Some of the most popular dishes served during Eid include Murgh Mussallam, Kababs, Seviyan and Halwa.

However, according to the Statistics Center Abu Dhabi (SCAD), its latest Foodstuffs Price Index increased by 0.49 percent during the third week of Ramadan, compared to the previous week. The rise was attributed to the rising cost of seafood.

But Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the UAE’s Minister of Economy, has said that around 400 essential items have seen a price fall of 20-40 percent during Ramadan. He said that ministry inspections at supermarkets and stores helped to keep prices stable during the month.
