Introduction

Eid ul-Fitr, also called the small Eid, marks the end of the month of Ramadan, and is usually celebrated over three days. The dates for the festival are decided after the sighting of the moon. Although the UAE has its own moon sighting committee, its results are coordinated with Saudi’s findings to fix a common date.  However, not all countries share the Eid and Ramdan dates.

Like most festivals, Eid involves praying, wearing new clothes, giving gifts and after a month of fasting, a lot of feasting. Also, before the traditional Eid prayer begins, every Muslim who is financially able is expected to pay Zakat al-fitr-alms for the month of Ramadan.
