Facebook puts Yahoo rumours to bed
Zuckerberg says at some point search will be tempting enough but will Facebook and Yahoo get together on this one?

It’s not surprising that a platform as enormous as Facebook would consider the possibility of entering the realm of search engines. Between the trillions of connections and content that is ‘being pushed into the system’, it’s a classical diamond-in-the-rough story.
“We do a billion queries a day and we aren’t even trying,” says Zuckerberg. “There is a big opportunity in search, evolving to giving a set of answers to a specific question and Facebook is uniquely positioned to do that. For example, ‘Which of my friends or friends of friends work in a company I might like to work at?’ At some point we will do it.”
Earlier this week, a report by the Sunday Telegraph – taking the news lead from unnamed sources – noted the possibility that Facebook and Yahoo are in talks and looking to mold into one search engine alliance.
The search potential that would come from Facebook’s one billion users and Yahoo’s 700 million is certainly tempting but when Kipp asked, the social media giant denied any such partnership.
“People expect a better search experience on Facebook. We are working on improvements to better meet those expectations but are not in talks to enter into a new search partnership.”
All in all, the money available in search is limitless and Yahoo could really use a boost at this point but whether the two will ever merge powers together is still mysterious. One thing is for sure though, if their full potential is fused and utilized, their success will be at Google’s expense.
