FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL: Top 9 businessmen and fathers in the UAE

  • Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan

    The founder of the UAE and Father of the nation, the late President, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, played a crucial role in the formation of the UAE and the unification of the emirate. His quest to create a modern Arab state was achieved by his son, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is the current Ruler of the UAE after his father’s death.

  • Ahmed Seddiqi, Founder, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons

    The Late Founder was an ambitious young entrepreneur, and his passion for Swiss watches saw him establish the company’s first franchise agreement in the 1950s with the West End Watch Co. The late Ibrahim Ahmed Seddiqi laid the foundations for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, and his sons Mohammed, Qassim and Osama hold senior roles in the company and his granddaughters, Muna, MahraSeddiqi, and Hind Abdul HamiedSedddiqi are the third generation to join the family business.

  • Easa Saleh Al Gurg, Founder, Easa Al Gurg Group

    Easa Saleh Al Gurg, founded the Easa Al Gurg Group in 1960, a family business with 23 divisions that deal in trading, manufacturing, retail, franchise and real estate. The Al Gurg family business is handled by his children, Raja Easa Al Gurg, Maryam Easa Al Gurg, MunaEasa Al Gurg, and Abdulla Al Gurg.

  • Tony Jashanmal, Executive Director, Jashanmal Group

    After the end of the First World War, Rao Sahib Jashanmal traveled to Basra, Iraq, in 1919 to start a department store for expatriates working in the oil industry. The success of the store led to many more Jashanmal stores opening across the Middle East and the rest is history. Tony Jashanmal, is the Executive Director of the Jashanmal Group and his son Narain Jashanmal is currently working as the General Manager at the Jashanmal Group.

  • Sheikh Walid Ibrahim al-Ibrahim, MBC Chairman

    The brother-in-law of the late King Fahd and the founder of the first independent Arabic satellite TV station, Sheikh Walid Ibrahim al-Ibrahim has been heralded as the man who changed the media scene in Arab world. Today, the MBC Group is growing at a significant pace with the help of Abdulaziz bin Fahd, his nephew and the youngest son of the late king Fahd.

  • Ramzi Raad, TBWA\Raad

    Ramzi Raad, chairman and CEO of TBWA\Raad, a prominent player in the Arab media industry. TBWA Raad, has a network of agencies spread across the Middle East including Ketchum Raad Middle East (PR), and Tequila Middle East (CRM). He founded the Gulf Cooperation Council Advertising Association, the Middle East Research Forum and the Middle East Advertising Agencies Association. His son, Reda Raad, who was actively overseeing day-to-day operations of the company as the MD, is now the Chief Operating Officer of TBWA\Raad.

  • Yousuff Ali M.A, Founder & MD, EMKE Group of Companies

    Yousuff Ali M.A is the Founder of the EMKE Group of Companies, and is one of the richest Indians in the Gulf region. EMKE Group is best known for its Lulu Hypermarket chain in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and India. Yousuff Ali also served as a board member of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industries. His daughter, Sahfina Yusuffali, has launched a chain of food outlets, one of them is a restaurant called Peppermill in Lulu Hypermarket, Al Barsha.

  • Ahmed Al Ghurair, Al Ghurair Group

    As the founder of the Al Ghurair Group (founded in the 1960s), Ahmed Al Ghurair has been a prominent figure in the UAE business community for a long time. His son Abdulaziz Al Ghurair, CEO of Mashreq bank, has taken the family legacy forward. Abdulaziz is one of the founders of the of the property giant Emaar and has worked as a speaker of the UAE’s Federal National Council till 2011.

  • Edmond Moutran, Memac Ogilvy & Mather Middle East

    When Edmond Moutran started  Memac (Middle East Marketing and Advertising Company) in 1984, he employed no more than four people  in a small office in Bahrain. Now Memac Ogilvy is one of the top five agency groups in the MENA region. He is the Chairman and CEO of Memac Ogilvy Group. His children, Nabil Moutran works as the Regional Director for Ogilvy One MENA , Ramzi Moutran works as the Creative Director for Memac Ogilvy Dubai and Sami Moutran works as the Business Director for Memac Ogilvy PR.
