Jumping on the Bandwagon?

As group-buying becomes a trendier, more acceptable form of e-commerce in the region, what impact will it have on agencies and retailers of the UAE?

Have you ever Nabbed It? Or, to repeat an old joke doing the rounds on Twitter, in the case of Cobone… erm, you get our 12 year-old-like drift? Chances are, if you are the sophisticated trend setter that most Kipp readers generally are, you have; and if you haven’t because you just don’t trust online buying, let alone group-buying, you are one of the few in the region who don’t. Or that is at least what a new survey from YouGovSiraj and GoNabit has found.
The survey (which polled more than 2,000 users at random) found that more than 93 percent of respondents were “overwhelmingly positive towards e-commerce” regardless of the political instability in the region or the region’s track record with delivery and transportation. What’s more, two-thirds claimed that they’d opt for online buying more often if the deal was cheaper with 56 percent conceding they’d buy more often if it was more convenient to purchase online.
And though group buying websites like GoNabit and Cobone offer discounted deals, interestingly they attract those users with a high income. Take for instance, the users of a GoNabit sample, which showed that respondent salaries were skewed towards higher incomes (38 percent had a monthly salary of $5,333) with more than 53 percent saying they have spent more than $500 on a purchase and 52 percent of those on the highest incomes said they had spent more than $1,000 online.
