Paul Hewson aka Bono was originally nicknamed “Bono Vox” by his friend Guggi. It means “good voice” in cockeyed Latin. Hewson later shortened it to Bono.

Bono is the lead singer and lyricist of the Irish band U2, which has won 22 Grammy awards. The 48-year-old has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood in the UK, and was named as a Person of the Year by Time in 2006.
