Kuwait may soon abolish sponsorship system

Expatriates running their own businesses in the country will not need a sponsor anymore.

Recent press reports quoted ILO officials as saying that Kuwait is at risk of facing sanctions if it does not find proper substitutes for the system. However, Al-Kandari refuted such reports, adding that Kuwait will always remain in full compliance with international labor regulations.

Nada Al-Nashif, regional manager of the ILO, also ruled out the possibility of imposing sanctions against the country, adding that Kuwait was one of the first countries to seek the ILO’s help for finding a new labor system to replace the current sponsorship system.

In August this year, Kuwait approved a move to modify the sponsorship laws in the country, by allowing expatriates to transfer jobs without approval from their sponsor. The only condition is that the person should spend three years with the same sponsor.

waiting for the UAE for such move to boost the Small and Medium enterprises.. not only the categories listed above should be exempted, but every business which an expatriate want to start should not have sponsor system.

This will encourage the expatriate to invest in UAE instead of their own countries thus lifting up the consumer standards and healthy competition in addition to drainage of large sum of money from UAE.

    Interesting development.

When will Saudi Arabia follow suit? After all that country seems to have the largest number of suffering expatriates mostly from poor countries who more often than not believed their Saudi Muslim brothers would treat them like brothers Any Saudi reading this should and believes he/she is a Muslim or scholar should fear Allah and work for immediate change towards relieving their fellow Muslims of years of suffering. They should remember death and what comes after
