Mattar Al Tayer

In this part of the world, one high profile position is never enough. Al Tayer is no exception. Not only is he the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) chairman of the board and executive director (a position he’s held since 2005) he’s also a member of the Dubai Executive Council, the Dubai Government’s Budget Committee, among others.

Most recently, Al Tayer revealed the Dubai Metro fares at a press conference last week, claiming Dubai’s metro will be one of the cheapest modes of public transport in the world.

On September 9, the 52.1km red line from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali is expected to open to the public, followed by another line, the 23.9km green line in March 21, 2010.

The $4.2bn Dubai Metro project will be Al Tayer’s biggest contribution to the emirate’s development.
