A number of local media reported this morning that there is a new salary limit for expats who want to sponsor their families in Dubai. However, the information has been disputed and the source of where this news originated remains unclear.
Last week, Gulf News, and today Khaleej Times and some radio stations reported that expats wanting to sponsor their families in Dubai would be required to have a minimum salary of between AED9,000 and AED10,000 with accommodation in order to qualify.
Upon contacting the Dubai General Directorate of Foreign Affairs, Kippreport.com was told that the aforementioned information is incorrect and that the old rule still applies: expats with a minimum salary of AED3,000 to AED4,000 with accommodation can sponsor their spouses and children for resident or visit visas. To sponsor a brother or sister, the limit is AED5,000 and to sponsor parents, it goes up to AED20,000. These rules apply to all nationalities, except Egyptian and Syrian.
“If there is a new rule, it has not been implemented yet and we have not received any circular,” says an immigration official, who did not want to be named.
“This limit has been in effect for years. No announcement regarding changes has been made,” adds another official.
