The group was founded by Ian Schrager, the ‘king of hip’, and currently runs ten hotels that are known for their style and chic.
MHG developed its first property, Morgans on Madison Avenue in New York City in 1984, which it claims introduced the ‘Boutique Hotel’ concept (personalized service and home-away-from-home ambience). The Royalton in New York, the first property designed by Philippe Starck, came later. The hotel has since been redesigned.
More than 10 years later, the group came out with the first Delano hotel in Miami. Next year, the Mondrian was opened in Los Angeles. The group went to expand further across the US and now has projects in San Francisco, Florida, Chicago, Illinois and Boston, Massachusetts.
The company’s first venture outside the US came with the opening of St Martins Lane in London in 1999.
