“My goal is to be number one”

Russia’s Dinara Safina has just lost the world number one tennis ranking to Serena Williams after she withdrew from the Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha due to a back injury. Williams will occupy the number one spot even if she loses the rest of her matches this year.
“Capturing the year-end world No.1 ranking is a huge accomplishment for me and I am thrilled that all the hard work has paid off,” Williams said in a statement.
Williams will certainly be hoping that she can also clinch the $4.55 million win in Doha. The championship marks the end of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, and features the best eight players in the world. Not surprisingly, Williams currently holds the highest odds of winning the Doha tournament on sport betting sites across the world including bwin, Sport Bets, and William Hill.
And close behind her on all those sites, with the second highest odds, is Russian Olympic gold medalist, Elena Dementieva. The current number five, Dementieva lost out in the quarter finals of the China Open earlier this month, but in an interview with Kipp, says she is well prepared for the Doha tournament.
