He had a long career as an academic, as a professor of theology at various German universities. He also served as the vice president of the University of Regensburg. He received his priestly ordination on June 29, 1951.
Recently, the 82-year-old leader advised his priests to post sermons and services online, and use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to establish a presence in the digital world as it would “open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis.” The church has already launched a YouTube channel, as well as a new iPhone app.
