The 80-day refurbishment of the airport’s two runways consisted of resurfacing the 4-kilometre runway, upgrading lighting and the construction of additional taxiways.
Known as one of the world’s busiest airports, the work at Dubai International Airport resulted in a decrease of 26 per cent in flight traffic during the construction period.
“The opening of the northern runway and ramp up to a full schedule, when combined with the upcoming Eid holidays, will result in a significant surge in passenger numbers from July 21,” says Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.
Numerous airlines were moved to neighbouring airports during the runway closure yet, from today, all airlines will return to Dubai International Airport and resume regular service.
