Considered a media icon in the Arab world, Imam started his acting career in early 1966. Since then he has starred in more than a hundred Egyptian movies, including “Hassan & Marcus,” “Morgan Ahmed Morgan,” “The Yacoubian Building,” and “El Sefara fi El Imara.” Primarily a comedian, he has also participated in around 10 plays as well as several TV series’.
Through his work, he addresses social issues such as religious fundamentalism, political corruption, injustice and poverty, which led to his appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Middle East and North Africa in 2000.
