Resolution No (1) issued for upcoming tramway operation

New regulation to ensure safe and secure transportation of passengers

January 26, 2014 4:40 by

Resolution No (1) of the upcoming 2014 tramway system has been issued by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council. The resolution requires the tramway system to ensure the utmost safety and security of its passengers, by implementing the best international practices of operation.

In that regard, all Dubai government departments affiliated with the tramway operation, such as the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), the Rail Agency of the RTA and the Dubai Police, are to take responsibility in implementing the necessary policies of planning, developing and overseeing the project.

Along with the crucial rules and regulations associated with the tramway system, the resolution also states penalties for all possible punishable traffic violations, such as a fine between AED10,000 to AED30,000 for crossing a red traffic light at the intersection area with the tramway in addition to having the driver’s license revoked. The same applies for minor violations, with fines between AED2,000 to AED5,000 along with a possible revocation of the driver’s license.

With Expo 2020 fast approaching and population growth, Dubai seeks to lessen the burden of traffic and accidents by implementing the new resolution. Hence, it will ensure the safety and security of all Dubai citizens and tourists, and promotes decongestion in terms of road traffic.
