The 50-year-old singer is currently planning to launch a campaign to recognize the rights of single mothers to adopt children from foreign countries, reports London-based paper The Sun online. The singer is fighting a court case in Malawi to adopt three-year-old Mercy James. Madonna’s adoption bid was rejected by Malawian authorities last month on the grounds that prospective parents have to reside in the country for 18 to 24 months.

The so-called ‘Queen of Pop’ is also hogging the limelight for dating 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus Luz.

Madonna was born in Michigan, and reportedly arrived in New York with $35 in her pocket in 1978. Since then, she has released numerous hit songs, has acted in a handful movies, and also started her own record company, Maverick Records in 1991.
