The singer met the Israeli president in 2007 during a trip to Jerusalem, and the pair reportedly exchanged gifts and discussed world peace.

Peres, who was first elected to the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, in 1959, has held many ministerial posts in the country. During his term as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he conducted the Oslo negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, and on December 12, 1994, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in advancing peace in the Middle East.
