How is the singer, who was reportedly beaten by her boyfriend, and who recently cancelled her concert in the UAE, connected to the man who tried to beat a president with a shoe?

May 6, 2009 4:02 by

Muntadar Al-Zaidi

The 30-year-old Iraqi broadcast journalist, who was working with Al-Baghdadia TV, threw his shoe at Bush screaming “”This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog.” A second shoe followed; but Bush managed to duck both the hurling shoes.

While Al Zaidi was initially sentenced to three years in prison, Iraq’s federal appeals court reduced it to one year last month, because “he was young and had no previous criminal record.”

Al Zaidi however, became a hero after the incident: one person offered $10 million for the shoes, and another offered his daughter to the journalist. He even inspired a Sikh journalist in India, who also threw his shoe at the country’s home minister, P Chidambaram during a press conference.
