Most of us know him as the father of the “most wanted terrorist” in the world, but very few know the story of his rise from rags to riches. From humble beginnings as a porter to a wealthy owner of the one of the largest construction companies in the world (SBG), Sheikh Bakr Bin Mohammed Bin Laden’s family was known as the wealthiest non-royal family in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His close association with royal family members helped him secure major construction projects, and later on, his appointment as the Minister of Public Works. After the Al-Aqsa Mosque was badly damaged in a fire incident in 1969, he was assigned with the task of rebuilding it. He is also credited with the refurbishment of the Mecca and Medina mosques.

More recently, the SBG has been in the news for its multi-million dollar investment in the construction of the world’s tallest building to be.
