Roger Federer has just pulled out of both the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships scheduled to be held next week and Switzerland’s Davis Cup series against the United States tennis team next month because of a back problem.
“As a precautionary measure, I will use the next few weeks to make sure the back injury is fully rehabilitated and I am ready for the rest of the 2009 season,” he said.
Federer’s absence is the latest blow for the Dubai Championships, after the UAE refused to grant a visa to Israeli player Shahar Peer, citing security concerns, says the Los Angeles Times.
