In anticipation of the increase in traffic congestion during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced special operations to manage traffic flow, particularly around malls and other tourist areas.
There will be more than 8,000 additional taxi services brought in to ease congestion, as well as extra buses, free parking and extended metro services.
The RTA continues to encourage all residents to use the Dubai Metro, particularly during the holidays. The metro’s operational hours will be increased as of Thursday, operating from 5:30am to 2am the following day.
Ahmad Mahboob, director of RTA’s customer service said that all paid parking zones in the emirate will be free, with the exception of the fish market parking lots and multi-level parking terminals.
To ease congestion, the RTA’s first ‘target’ is to set up signs to guide motorists to alternative routes to and from The Dubai Mall.
Traffic around The Dubai Mall will also be co-ordinated by special teams from the RTA, Dubai Police and the mall management.
