The Italian fashion designer reportedly managed to raise over $1.5 million through the show organized at London’s Somerset House last month, to collect funds for earthquake-stricken Haiti.
Armani, the name behind the high-end designer brand, has become an icon for his range of menswear products. The 75-year-old attended medical school for 2 years, worked for fashion house Nino Cerruti, and in 1974, started the Giorgio Armani menswear label with his partner, Segio Galeotti.
Though best known for his apparel, Armani also makes perfumes, baby clothes, home decor, watches and he just signed a deal with Samsung to produce LCD TVs. He also opened his first spa, at the Armani complex in Tokyo.
His first hotel project, the Armani Hotel Dubai, in the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, is set to open later this month, and the designer recently told US fashion magazine Woman’s Wear Daily that he is worried that the hotel may look “old” when it opens.
“I’ve been working on this for five years. I’m finally going to see what I designed, and it’s a bit nerve-racking to think that what I liked five years ago might look old now,” the designer told the magazine.
