The $18bn Lagoons development was the first project launched by Sama Dubai. Spread over 70 million sq ft, the Lagoons has seven interlinked landscaped islands, and will house 140,000 people when completed in 2012. It is located next to Dubai Festival City and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, along the Ras Al Khor Road. Construction work began in late 2006.
One of the islands will have Dubai’s first opera house, which is being designed by architect Zaha Hadid.
