The Sri Lankan bowler recently helped his team reach the semi-finals of the World Twenty 20 series currently on in England. The 24-year-old cricketer, who was playing for the Sri Lanka Army team, made his One Day International (ODI) debut against the West Indies in 2008 and took 3 wickets for 39 runs.
His first Test Match was against India at Colombo on July 23, 2008 in which became the first Sri Lankan bowler to get an eight-wicket haul on Test debut.
In September last year, Mendis also won the Emerging Player of the Year award at the LG ICC Awards ceremony held in Dubai.
