While fasting from sunrise to sunset is mandatory during Ramadan, it is also a month of generosity and compassion towards the less fortunate.
Charitable acts have a wonderful effect on general well-being and, whether you are fasting this year or not, it’s the perfect time to donate your time or money by partaking in a number of noteworthy initiatives across the city.
UAE Suqia, set up by Dubai Customs, aims to dig 30 wells during Ramadan (one per day) to provide clean drinking water to five million people across the world. The project was initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. You can donate money through your mobile phone.
To contribute to the UAE Suqia campaign, SMS ‘Water’ to:

Dr Mohammed Faizeen Bhyat’s Vision
Dr Bhyat, an optometrist, who works at Dubai’s The Vision Center, has gathered a team of volunteers to conduct free eye tests on labourers.
The team aims to examine a minimum of 250 workers per day and distribute free glasses, if required.
You can also donate unused glasses to the cause by calling 04 351 2282.
