Sir Ove Nyquist Arup

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1895, the Anglo-Danish engineer founded the Arup group limited. Sir Ove studied in Denmark to become a structural engineer and formed Arup and Arup Ltd (which later became the Arup Group Limited). He received a British knighthood in 1970, and in 1973 he completed his work on the iconic Sydney Opera house.  The completion of that project made his name and his firm went on to design many other notable works, such as the Bird’s Nest, the Olympic stadium used in the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, and…
