“Google CEO sees bright Saudi Internet prospects.” These were the splashy headlines in the Arab press when Schmidt met with Amr Al-Dabbagh, Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, SAGIA.

The two shared an enthusiastic assessment of investment potential in the Kingdom when they met in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

The future of the internet in the region is bright because it’s young, growing, and internet-savvy, Schmidt said. And increasing online Arabic content will expand the playing field for the world’s 300 million or so Arabic speakers – something Dabbagh knows quite a lot about.
