Gregory John Norman is an Australian professional golfer and entrepreneur who spent 331 weeks as the world’s Number 1 golfer in the 1980s and 1990s. The 56-year-old is nicknamed The Great White Shark or simply The Shark because of his aggressive golf style and his Aussie roots.
Besides his legendary golfing skills, Norman is also experienced in designing golf courses. Two of these design projects is located in Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates. One of them, the Earth course, hosted the inaugural Dubai World Championship in 2009—which had a whopping $10 million purse, making it the richest golf tourney in the world. The Fire course was only recently launched at the beginning of this year while the Wind and the Water courses are on hold.
Created by Dubai-based developer LeisureCorp, Jumeirah Golf Estates has been through some rough times the past couple of years. Before it eventually merged with Nakheel, at the helm of LeisureCorp was this intrepid businessman…
