Ten chefs selected for the Dubai Taste New Zealand finals

Winners to compete in cook-off on April 26 at Park Hyatt Dubai

After receiving 25 submission recipes, the annual Dubai Taste New Zealand cook-off hosted by the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise chose ten of the most exceptional chefs in the UAE have been selected to compete in the finals.

Taking place at the Park Hyatt Dubai on the April 26, the event, sponsored by Emirates Airlines, will award the winner with a trip for two to New Zealand, for business and leisure purposes.

According to this year’s judging panel, it wasn’t easy choosing only ten finalists, since every candidate had nicely lived up to their standards and conditions, mainly based on the originality and the quality of the piece, as well as the use of the given ingredients.

Steve Jones, New Zealand trade commissioner, also one of this year’s judges, says: “The ten finalists are some of the finest chefs in the UAE and we are excited to see what they create at the final cook-off to showcase New Zealand ingredients at their best.”

The ten culinary artistes are: Jackson Chandranathan, Comms II, David Dalhaus, Johannes Hansen, Emily Herbert, Sakeer Hussain, Jr Sous, Etienne Karner, Prabakaran Manickam, Muhammad Raees, Mohd Rene Bin Mohd Johari and Kiran Shetty. They will be split up into two groups at the final cook-off, and each team will have a different timing to compete: the first quintet will start at 1.30pm and the second will battle it out at 3.30pm, but both rounds will last an hour. After the event, the winner will be announced that same night.
