The ICC HQ
Did you know that Dubai is pretty much the head quarters of the global game? Well, sort of. Okay, so the emirate is not necessarily renowned for historic involvement in the game (not like Lord’s cricket ground in the UK, for instance, where cricket tests have been played since 1884). But since 2005 it has been home to the global head quarters of the International Cricket Council, the official governing body for the game (which used to be housed at Lord’s). With 105 nations as members, the ICC is responsible for the organization and governance of the world game, including the world cup and other major tournaments. It oversees referees and umpires, and pushes a code of conduct globally that supposedly helps keep corruption and match-fixing out of the game. It doesn’t decide the rules, though – that’s up to the Marylebone Cricket Club.
