Rupert Murdoch is in the news today because he is launching “The Daily”, the first ever digital newspaper for the iPad only. The unveiling this week at New York’s Guggenheim museum comes one month later than scheduled due to a last minute announcement about the ill health of Apple chief Steve Jobs. The daily issue, which will cost readers 99 cents every week, will be written by veteran journos picked from established publications including The New Yorker, the New York Post and Forbes.
Murdoch needs no introduction to Kipp’s readers, we are sure. For there can be few who aren’t familiar with the big names his company News Corp owns or controls, including Fox Broadcasting, 20th Century Fox TV, B Sky B, New York Post, The Times, Sunday Times, and the News of the World, to name just a few. Murdoch has also variously directed, chaired, and served as CEO for some of the most influential news organizations in the world – News International, FEG, DIRECTV, China Netcom Group Corp, and the Associated Press.
He was recently in the Emirates last year when he attended the Abu Dhabi Media Summit. Worth no less than $6.3 billion (according to Forbes estimate) it should come as no surprise that he has an impressive network of business men, royalty, politicians and actors. Click “next” to see it.
