No doubt a painful year for the golfer who was in the news for all the wrong reasons. But Tiger Woods has been slowly but surely stepping out back into the world, and if there is one place he will surely be welcomed it’s Dubai, for he shares a special relationship with the emirate. Having played in the Dubai Desert Classic numerous times in 2007, Woods also signed an agreement with the tournament promoters that he would compete in the event at least three times in the next four years.
“I always enjoy visiting Dubai, it’s an extremely hospitable place where the people and the tournament organizers treat the players so well,” he said. And his love for the city also led him to design a 55 million sq ft golf community project called Tiger Woods Dubai, estimated to cost $1.1 billion. The development will feature a golf course, a golf academy and a luxury boutique hotel. “Dubai has the biggest, greatest and newest of everything, and hopefully we’ll create an experience here with this golf course that people will remember,” Woods said while promoting the project last year.
