Some of the most incredible things from across the world, such as the best and worst or the longest and shortest or the oldest and the tallest are registered with one of the most popular books that have a new edition every year – the Guinness Book of World Records. The first Guinness book of records was compiled and published by the Irish twins Ross and Norris McWhirter, who had been running a fact-finding agency, in August 1954 in Britain. What a lot of people don’t know is that book is named after a famous brewery in Ireland – the Guinness brewery. Rumour has it that the Managing Director of the Guinness Empire, Sir Hugh Beaver got involved in an argument with another person over which was Europe’s fastest game bird – the Koshin golden plover or the grouse. He thought upon the idea of compiling a book of records, from throughout the world supplying information on every world record. Every year Guinness World Records comes out with new edition of world records in the Guinness database, and the criteria for the choice of records change as well. The old records are updated and the new ones are added. The Guinness World Records 2012 was released on 13th September 2011 in USA and Canada and on the 15th September 2011 worldwide.
