The Six Degrees of… Lara Dutta

The former Miss Universe was in Dubai this weekend for her bachelorette party, but how can we link her to a German rock group obsessed with sport via the region’s business big shots?

The CEO of Splash apparel stores was one of 14 friends hosting the former Miss Universe for the bash. Gulf News wrote: “Dressed in a chic chikankari salwar-kurta, Beig played the perfect host to his clad-in-white guests. ‘I’ve known Lara for years now. We met through a close mutual friend, Clara Belle, soon after Lara won the Miss Universe title, and have never looked back.’ Beig said the night was something of a surprise for Dutta. ‘Lara is presuming it’s a simple dinner with just us fourteen close friends. She’s not expecting a crowd of 150.’

Beig learnt to fend for himself early, according to Khaleej Times, after his film-maker father died. He also had to fend for his mother and five sisters, so he started trading early when he taught the laundryman’s son in exchange for washing. “It took me six months to teach that kid alphabets, but then he became one of the best in his class. That gave me the belief that I had the ability to teach. Slowly from one student it became five and I took it as a profession as I went into the first year of my junior college.” It became a thriving business, and allowed Beig to branch out into other businesses. His big success story, Splash, is part of Landmark Group, and the head man is something of a mentor to Beig. Meet…
