Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein
Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein is the daughter of Late King Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan (1935-1999) and Late Queen Alia Al Hussein (1948-1977); the half sister of King Abdullah II of Jordan; and the wife of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai. They have a daughter, Sheikha Al Jalila, who was born on December 2, 2007 and a son, Sheikh Zayed, who was born on January 7, 2012. Having pursued her studies as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA), she speaks several languages such as English, French, Spanish, and Russian. She is also the only woman in Jordan with a truck drivers’ license. She is the Chairperson of Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA) and the founder of the first food aid non-governmental organisation in the Arab world, ‘Tkiyet Um Ali.’; also very active in promoting and addressing health, education, sports and youth issues across the Arab world. She was the first Arab and the first woman to take up position as a Goodwill Ambassador of WEP from 2005 to 2007. Her appointment was supported by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. In September 2007, Princesss Haya was honoured with UN Messenger of Peace by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
