Founded on September 22, 1989, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is an international non-profit organisation and governing body of sports events for athletes with disabilities. Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, the IPC organizes the summer and Winter Paralympic games. Sir Philip Craven is president of IPC, whose mission is ‘To enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world’. The IPC is made up of representatives from 162 National Paralympic Committees, four International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled, five regional organisations, and six International Sports Federations. In September 2011, IPC officially certified ParaGamesBreda (PGB) – the first sporting event for disabled athletics in Europe.
