Abdulla Sultan Al Aryani
UAE‘s 42-year-old ace shooter Abdulla Sultan Al Aryani made the nation proud when he won the UAE’s first gold medal in the Mixed R6-50m Rifle Prone – SH1 shooting at London’s Royal Artillery Barracks on 4th September at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He acknowledged the country’s rulers for his feat. “They have been so supportive and so patient, and this is the only way I can show my appreciation and repay them.”“To win the UAE’s first gold medal at the Paralympics is a real honour for me and I’m very proud. It’s something amazing and I can’t believe it” he said after he won the gold medal. Al Aryani became the second Emirati to win a Paralympic gold after weightlifter Mohammed Khamis Khalaf won at the 2004 Athens Games. Al Aryani was paralysed from waist down after a car crash and remained confined to his wheelchair since then. He missed out on his second gold medal in the R7-50M Rifle 3 Positions – SH1 final competition, yesterday. This definitely has not affected Al Aryani, as he hopes to bag another gold in the Rio 2016 Summer games.
