Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum is chairman of Emirates Airlines, and met Dallaglio when he was unveiled as a sporting ambassador.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum recently replaced Dubai World chairman Sultan bin Sulayem. Sheikh Ahmed, who is, interestingly, Sheikh Mohammed’s uncle, has the not-so-enviably task of heading the troublesome Dubai World, a company that has worked hard to restructure $25 billion of debt over the past year. But Sheikh Ahmed is best known for his role as chairman of Emirates Airlines—a position he has held since the inception of the airline. In fact he has a career history in aviation, ever since he was appointed to the office of the President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation. A holder of a Bachelors Degree from the University of Denver, Colorado, Sheikh Ahmed was honoured for his contribution and achievement in aviation with a fellowship of the Royal Aeronautical Society at the 1994 Farnborough Air Show in the UK.
