The Six Degrees of… Rafael Nadal

This week Nadal beat Roger Federer in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Abu Dhabi. How can Kipp connect him to a Scientologist through a member of the British Monarchy?

The Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa – just celebrating its first anniversary, and our first degree – is none other than the world’s tallest building. When he was visiting Dubai in 2008, Nadal took a lift up the then unfinished “Burj Dubai,” up to the 158th floor (600 meters high) to leave his mark on the structure. “It’s incredible, insane (…) I was a little scared when I was in the lift but from the top it was unbelievable. I was reassured to learn the lift will be on the inside when it is completed!” is what Nadal told the press when he got back down from the tower.

Unfortunately two years on the lift isn’t quite the source of reassurance Nadal hoped it would be, after it broke down a couple of times during its first year in operation. But Kipp is feeling gracious today, and so we will excuse the tower and instead remark on just how impressive the building is (though the same can’t necessarily be said about the NYE fireworks show set against it).

Kipp quite enjoys marveling at the tower on our way to work and especially during the night when it is lit up — which probably should comes as no surprise as it was lit by world famous lighting design expert…
