Fans were reportedly loudly humming the theme for the movie “Rocky” at the conclusion of the $2.7 million Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

Ten years ago, he was giving lessons to 18-handicappers in England. And now, Robert Rock, a relative nobody, has become golf’s modern-day Rocky. And who doesn’t cheer for the underdog? This 35-year-old Englishman isn’t new to the UAE, though. He finished 2009 season ranked in the top thirty of Race to Dubai. (And if you should think this makes Tiger Woods into Apollo Creed then that’s up to you but we wouldn’t necessarily think so, especially since Rory McIlroy finished second and Woods finished third.)
