HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein
One of two children Jordan’s King Hussein I had with his third wife, Queen Alia, Princess Haya had a brother, Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, and an adopted sister, Abir Muhaisen, who was adopted by King Hussein and Queen Alia after her mother was killed by a plane crash at their Palestinian refugee camp.
The British-educated Princess also had other brothers and sisters from her father’s previous and following marriages. One of these step-siblings is the husband of Queen Rania and current head of Jordan, King Abdullah.
Aside from a number of charitable activities, the mother of two is a very active in sports, particularly in Equestrian Games. She represented Jordan in showjumping back in 2000 and she won a bronze medal for the same category during the 1992 Pan Arab Games in Syria.
Princess Haya is the elected president of the International Equestrian Federation since 2006. Her four-year term as the IEF President was challenged during a re-election bid—the first time the elected President for the organisation was contested. Members of the Federation criticized her for “behaving dictatorially and violating the organisation’s democratic principles to pursue her own agenda.” She succeeded in the re-election bid.
Despite already being in the limelight as one of the daughters of King Hussein I of Jordan, Princess Haya is really more known as one of the more visible wives of this UAE ruler…
