The world’s richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup just concluded, with Well Armed winning the $6 million the race, and is the 14th winner of the annual tournament. The horse came third in the race last year.

Apart from the horse race, the World Cup is also a fashion venue, with competition this year including “Best Dressed Lady”, “Best Dressed Couple” and “Best Hat”. According to the organizers, the 2009 edition in Nad Al Sheba attracted around 35,000 people (including the public seating outside the racecourse).

Most of our poll respondents, however, were not impressed. While 46 percent felt that the World Cup was a waste of time and money, almost 24 percent said that they wouldn’t be going for the event.

A mere 11.5 percent said that that they love horses, and would certainly be attending the competition, and 18.5 percent said that they wished they could get hold of $6 million. (Kipp would like to add its vote to the last category).

The Dubai World Cup is one of the most publicized events in the city, and is now getting geared up to shift to the $1.25 billion Meydan racecourse for the 2010 edition of the event.
