What is a tweet, who is tweeting whom and why it all matters. And how it can help you release your darkest secrets.

Twitter is a privately funded project which was started in March 2006, and launched in August the same year. The concept is simple: tell your friends what you are doing through short messages (limited to 140 characters), which are called Tweets. Twitter became widely popular after its launch, and is currently used as a means to spread news, views and random comments to people across the globe.
While the Twitter service is currently free, its makers say that they are working on ideas to make the venture start generating revenue. Evan Williams, the company’s CEO, told Bloomberg in November last year that Twitter may start charging companies to reach its users (perhaps by sending out coupons or promotions to those who volunteer), and those who want to use the site to gather feedback on their products, or display ads on its search engine.
