Kipp has a secret that it wishes to share. There is something that has been keeping us up at night. . . for far too long now. In fact, it all started when Kingdom Holdings announced plans to build its own tallest tower the kilometer-high Kingdom Tower.
Ever since that announcement, Kipp’s nights have been filled with worry. We didn’t really know what we were getting so worked up about. We knew something like this was bound to happen… eventually. But did it have to happen so soon? How would we ever live with the embarrassment of living in a city home to only the second tallest building in the world. Oh the shame.
And then we read a report from Emirates 24|7 and stopped worrying: “Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to remain tallest tower in the world until 2017,” read the headline. Phew! Five years may not be long, but it is better than nothing.
Emirates 24|7 tells us that Kingdom Holding Company Chairman, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, has told reporters the 1,000-metre Kingdom Tower in Jeddah will be fully constructed by mid-2017. When it is completed, the tower will be at the center of the Kingdom City Jeddah a new development comprising more than 5.3 million square meters in the north of Jeddah.
Well, that is a load off our mind. Now, if only we can find a way to ensure Dubai will continue to hold the records for having the biggest book, chair, bicycle, abaya and khadoura . . .
