The high-end shoe label founder is something of a citizen of the world. Born to a Czech father and a Spanish mother and raised on a banana plantation in the Canary Islands, the 66-year old Spanish fashion designer graduated from the University of Geneva in 1965 and studied art in Paris. He then moved to London in 1968 to work at fashion boutique Zapata and write for Vogue Italia. Following the advice of famous American Vogue columnist Diana Vreeland whom he had met after having moved New York in 1970, he focused on footwear design, with enduring success over 30 years. He now has boutiques all across the world, from Hong Kong to Sao Paulo, Kuwait and recently Dubai.
Awarded the honorary title of Commander of the British Empire in 2007 for his service to the British fashion industry, the craftsman’s stilettos enjoyed a worldwide popular boost thanks to unconditional support from award-winning series’ actress…
