Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim
“Former child prodigy, chess champion, entrepreneur, philanthropist and academic,” according to Gulf News – and a man who has seen a few ups and at least one major down. The son of a pharmacist, Sulaiman Al-Fahim was born in 1977 in Dubai. Seeing customers who couldn’t afford painkillers, he became determined to achieve financial success. He began investing in stocks as a teenager, working while his friends were playing. Tragically, both his parents died in a car crash near Dubai Airport in 1998 – an event that devastated the young man and prompted a move to the United States, where he received his Ph.D. and an MBA. After returning to his native UAE, he founded Hydra Properties in 2005, and with the launch of the reality TV show “The Hydra Executives,” became known as “the Arab Donald Trump.” He is also the man who now controls the strings of the sizable purse at Manchester City, having negotiated the purchase of the football club on behalf of Abu Dhabi United Group in September.
