Bank of London and the Middle East, a UK-based sharia-compliant bank, launched an Islamic capital markets desk to address increased demand for Islamic assets and Islamic bonds.
The Islamic capital markets desk will provide UK and international corporates with an alternative to conventional financing instruments, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
“London’s capital markets offer more depth and diversity that can help to overcome sector issues such as liquidity and risk management,” BLME chief executive Humphrey Percy said.
The capital markets desk will be led by Massoud Janekeh, the newly created head of Islamic capital markets at BLME. (Reporting by Shaheen Pasha; Editing by Dinesh Nair)
